Greater safety thanks to smart camera technology

TAWESCO has invested in new technology with artificial intelligence to detect people in risk zones. This is the first application of its kind in a company that responds to specific needs in the field of occupational safety.

In the beginning there was a simple question: How to reduce the number of unauthorized persons entering the plant interior?

The tool was INVANTA's smart camera with artificial intelligence, which detects the presence of people in real time and controls access accordingly. If no one is in the monitored area, the door opens. If there is, it stays closed.

Earlier this year, we installed the device at a gate designed for forklift movement, where previously employees were unintentionally cutting the path of travel. Access was made possible by a previously used laser scanner that was easily bypassed. The new system provides a higher level of protection not only for people but also for property.

What can the system do?

The installed system uses a camera equipped with an AI algorithm, which detects the presence of people in a defined zone based on their silhouette (it is not a facial recognition). If the camera detects a person in a restricted area, it will not automatically allow the opening of doors designed exclusively for forklifts.

In addition to detection, the camera also:

produces video recordings of incidents (time loop 5-8 seconds)
photographs persons entering a defined area
operates autonomously without the need to connect to the cloud - analysis takes place directly on the corporate network
The camera is complemented by a traffic light, a light emitter and an audible alarm to help the system operate correctly even in low light conditions.

Benefits and future plans

The TAWESCA security team praises the technology especially for its ability to trace back incidents. There has also been a decrease in unauthorised entry into danger zones. The fact that the data remains within the company's infrastructure is also a big advantage, ensuring a higher level of security and privacy.

The cost of purchasing the technology was between 50-60 thousand CZK, the rest was installation work and infrastructure modifications. A team from Promet Group also participated in the installation and helped with the preparation of the space and cabling.

In the future, TAWESCO is considering expanding the system to other parts of the premises - for example, to internal road crossings or areas where operators work independently without permanent supervision.
